Every year, my family has a tradition of reflecting on the past year and selecting an ornament representing a significant event or tradition during that time. This tradition has become an essential part of our holiday celebrations. In this post, I'll show how you can use meaningful ornaments and how they can represent your memories and add this to your family tradition. This is part of my favorite Christmas tradition, and I suggest it to anyone wanting to add traditions to your family.

Ornament Tradition
Ornaments hold a special place in my heart as they represent significant events. They are beautiful reminders of the memories and milestones I've experienced. Using ornaments as a yearly journal is a unique and creative way to capture these moments. Every year, as I add to my collection, I'm reminded of the special moments that have occurred over the years, like my first interest in dance and piano, graduations, new jobs, a house, pets, losing grandparents, and many more. This tradition is something my mother created when I was young, and these memories are something I'll cherish forever.
Whether it is the year you welcomed a new addition to your family, started a new hobby, or overcame a challenging obstacle, each ornament tells a unique story and is a cherished memory you can treasure for years.
Nowadays, it's easy to find a wide variety of ornaments online. If you have young children, this tradition is delightful, but it will carry on far into their adulthood if they are anything like me. I live hard on family tradition and nostalgia. I look forward to it every year and appreciate this tradition the older I get. My sister and I, along with our spouses, go to my parent's house and hang ornaments from the past while listening to Christmas music. It's one of my favorite traditions we do every year. It also fills my mother's heart with happiness.
How can you start this tradition?
Choose one or two main things that happened in that year that you want to celebrate. This can be topics like getting excellent grades, a new job, overcoming obstacles like beating cancer, losing a pet or loved one, a significant event like having a child, getting a car, buying a house, or taking a fantastic trip. It can be a first or a new interest for little kids, like taking dance lessons for the first time. You can also go for something funny, like getting your first speeding ticket and your parents calling you out on it with an ornament. Hey, you'll never forget it. You can find the ornament that works best for you, and if it doesn't customize or note the year, then write on the back or bottom with a permanent marker. When I was growing up, all this customization was not anything like it is now, so using a permanent marker was the solution, and it works just fine on most materials.

Conclusion
Ornaments are great traditions to begin or make personalized gifts, especially for those who dislike receiving material things. Ornaments are a gift that keeps on giving year after year. Just have fun with it. I hope you love it as much as I do!
